Impact assessment is about proving the value of customer and
community involvement. Stand back, look at what you’ve done
and ask ‘so what? What difference has it made - to services,
communities, organisations, groups and individuals? And what are
the prospects for making an impact through future involvement?
Focusing on outcomes
Most involvement is driven by a desire
for change and improvement. So it’s not enough just to show
that you’ve done things (for example, meetings, consultation,
projects and events) – you have to show what’s changed
as a result.
Using the results
The time and effort you put into an
impact assessment is only worth anything if you use the results in
some way. So, you need to plug the findings into your normal planning,
management, monitoring and budgeting systems.
This helps involvement to play a real
part in shaping your future priorities and work. |
